Things+Time is an education project and online community archival platform for the digital conservation of objects through 3D scanning. The project aims to preserve histories and cultures that are ephemeral, undervalued, or currently undergoing rapid erasure due to socioeconomic injustices. In its first year, Things+Time included a two-month paid residency for ten local artists from marginalized communities. During the residency, participants learned various digital skills which will help them advance in their careers (3D scanning, project management, archival/documentation, and digital presence). Moreover, artists 3D scanned and digitally preserved objects of their choosing, which were exhibited on the site and at the launch event.
In my role as Project Lead & Art Director, I was deeply involved in nurturing this innovative project. I managed the development of the digital archive, overseeing a budget of $100k and coordinating a dedicated team of over 15. My work involved close collaboration with team leads in various areas such as design, technology, archival practices, and education. I facilitated specialized 3D scanning workshops and tailored training sessions, aiming to empower the artists with new skills and knowledge. Additionally, I contributed to the design and execution of the artist residency program, focusing on both artistic growth and the digital preservation of culturally significant objects. This project, a harmonious blend of art, technology, and community engagement, allowed me to apply my passion for using digital media as a meaningful tool in cultural preservation and educational initiatives.
